Voice recognition: A time-saver for bloggers or time-waster?

This Intyre blog post has been written using voice recognition software and not one single word typed.

The basic idea behind this was to work out whether voice recognition could be used to save time for bloggers and website owners to create content.

We have explored using the two most popular methods (missing word ‘the’) first being apples Siri and the other being windows Cortana. Apple’s iPhone Siri version:

As a small business owner we want to be able to maximise on our time. We have sales, admin, marketing and that all-important running missing word ‘of’a website for your business which includes blogging and creating news.

The next aspect of it is the amount of accuracy that exists when it comes to spelling and Grammer. We have seen that the Apple (Siri paused here) Siri version favours American spelling and very often uses a cool version of a word or a possessive version with’ incorrectly for (missed a word here).

We also noticed that a lot of voice recognition software programs have hidden instructions (missing comma) by that I mean if you want to put a, you have to you say the word,. Sometimes it will add it, sometimes it won’t. If you want to say the word ‘ sometimes it will add it and sometimes it will just add the actual’ in the incorrect place. You also have to tell it when you want a sentence to end by announcing the words ‘full stop’ as you can already see Siri struggled to understand whether to actually play safe. So go to write the words. Windoes Cortana was worse as it required you to use the word period to place a . and so the sentences either get punctuated incorrectly.

Being a web designer by trade and understanding how Coachworks it is the tickly frustrating that so many variables are allowed to creep in to the software. In conclusion we think that there is still a benefit in time saving to be had from using the voice recognition software for blocking as it means that you can dictate a very timely and immediate article on his piece and therefore produces great content (missing full stop and capitalisation) however it does mean that you would still need to review it (Siri paused here) heavily as the amount of mistakes are quite significant. At the end of this proposed we have provided a percentage scoring for each of apples Siri and Windows Cortana and how accurate they are against each other.

In short, there was a clear winner – Apple’s Siri was by far and away better. It was by no means perfect and I think it would produce worse results with users who have strong accents. Our feeling is that the software has been very much attuned to a West Coast US Californian accent. Perhaps that’s how we need to talk to it. Dude.
